    Writer's Block: Time after time

If you fall in love with a book or movie, do you tend to watch/read it again and again? If so, what's your upper limit on repeats?

    View 1924 Answers

There seem to be no limits with me. I will watch a movie I love over and over again. For example I have lost count of the times I have watched The Little Mermaid or The Wizard of Oz in my lifetime. And I know for a fact that I have seen Gone With The Wind 8 times and counting (it is LONG! But I love it!)

I'm the same with books, if I love a book so much I will re-read it. But I do limit myself, and save my absolute favourite book (Persuasion by Jane Austen) until I REALLY need to read it, I don't want to get sick of it because it is so beautiful. I have only read it three times, but I haven't read it in about two years and am starting to feel the need to read it again.

To some extent I'm the same with theatre, but that's for different reasons. I saw Phantom of the Opera 15 times, but 12 of those times were with the exact same cast because I became good friends with them. Similarly I watched another show 7 times because a friend was in it.
I do generally see a play twice though if I really enjoy it. I did so with Private Lives, The Priory, The Woman in Black, and I intend to go see Birdsong again if I get the chance.

    Writer's Block: Drama queen

If you could watch only one genre of movies for the rest of your life (e.g., action/adventure? romance, sci-fi, comedy, drama), which genre would you choose, and why?

Period drama. Because I never EVER tire of seeing Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, Little Dorrit, North and South, Persuasion, Emma, Doctor Zhivago, A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Mansfield Park, Cranford.... The list goes on and on and on.

Which song would you pick to describe your romantic life, and why?

On My Own from Les Miserables. Purely because I am the queen of unrequited love.

"Without me his world will go on turning, a world that's full of happiness that I have never known... I love him.... I love him... I love him. But only on my own."

Either that or "If Only" from the musical The Little Mermaid.

"If only you could know the things I long to say. If only I could tell you what I wish I could convey. It's in my every glance, my heart's an open book, you'd see it all at once if only you would look. If only you could glimpse the feeling that I feel, if only you would notice what I'm dying to reveal. The dreams I can't declare, the needs I can't deny, you'd understand them all if only you would try...."

"If only it were true, if only for a while, if only you would notice how I ache behind my smile. I guess you never will, I guess it doesn't show, but if I never find a way to tell you so... Oh... what I would give if only you could know."

Is there a film that you think is perfect in its original form and should never be remade?

The Ugly Truth/PS. I Love You/Bounty Hunters/pretty much anything with Gerard Butler - because it should never have been made in the first place. Awful.

No seriously, my answer would be The Wizard of Oz. LEAVE IT ALONE! I know the backgrounds are incredibly fake, and you can see the wires holding up the cowardly lion's tail, but that adds to the absolute genius of this film. It is perfection and I cringe at the thought of anyone getting their mitts on it and destroying it.

There are a few others I'd like to be left well and truly alone...
Breakfast At Tiffany's - because NOBODY can be Holly Golightly but Audrey Hepburn
Gone With The Wind - again, nobody can be Scarlett except for Vivien Leigh
(Technically a TV drama adaptation...) North and South because Richard Armitage is yummy as John Thornton and I can't imagine anyone else in the role lol.

What is the worst movie you've ever seen? Did you sit through it or walk out? What made it so dreadful?

    View 1768 Answers

Inspector Gadget. Dear god it is dreadful. I loved the cartoon as a child, and we had a bit of a Matthew Broderick moment when myself and my friend decided that due to our love for Ferris Bueller and Election we would watch more of his movies. This was one of them. Needless to say I have never hated a film more in my life, it is dull and cringeworthy. Awful.

There's a lot of others I could add to the list, that four-hour long black and white Russian version of Hamlet with Shakespearean subtitles was pretty bad, but probably only because I hadn't slept the night before I watched it.

Writer's Block: The Right to Privacy

Should some parts of celebrities' lives be off-limits to the public, or is giving up privacy a fair price for being famous?

    View 514 Answers

Of COURSE some parts of their lives should be off-limits. They are normal people at the end of the day, just because their jobs mean that they are in the spotlight and have high profiles, they should still be allowed a certain level of privacy. There is NO excuse for people disregarding this, and people should NOT expect to just assume that they are entitled to know every detail of actors' personal lives.

Having several actors in my acquaintance, I feel very strongly about this topic. Privacy is of my utmost concern.

    Boredom
I can not express my boredom right now.
I also REALLY need to get myself a life.
    My job is rubbish.
My friends all live so many miles away, they are completely scattered everywhere, so I hardly ever get to see them.
I'm just SO SO bored of life.

Thank god for my London trips once a month or so. It is quite sad that its all I live for...

    Writer's Block: Traditional Pursuits

There are a lot of things we see most often in December, like caroling, potato latkes, mistletoe, mulled wine, eggnog, and returning gifts. What's your favorite holiday tradition?

    View 500 Answers

Every single Christmas Eve I HAVE to put the chocolate decorations on the tree whilst watching The Wizard of Oz. It really would not be Christmas to me without watching Wizard of Oz. I know its not a Christmas film, but it is our tradition.

    Writer's Block: Infamous

Today is known to some as the Day of Infamy, in commemoration of what happened at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In your lifetime, what date sticks out as the most memorable in terms of world events?

    View 500 Answers

Well obviously there's 9/11 which everyonne's said, but also there's the day Princess Diana died, 31st August 1997. I remember being gutted that my favourite kids show was cancelled, but then being equally gutted of the sad news and I cried.

In my personal life... 6th September of this year has held great significance, a date that will probably stay with me forever.

    Starter For Ten Book/Film review

Having watched the film Starter for Ten (dir. Tom Vaughan, 2006) I decided to read the book by David Nicholls. I really enjoyed the film, mostly down to my being a huge James McAvoy fan, but I also enjoyed it on a much deeper level.

Are you trying to seduce me, Mrs Harbinson? )
